Hello,

From a friend of mine from Fullham UK, I’ve got an old gramophone.
It is a cabinet mede by J Collier&Son Ltd, trade mark: Colonola Gramophonos.
Mechanical and sound are made in the Swiss.
Factory info: Apollo TRX number 169349513.
As far I know this cabinet is built in 1939.
I’m looking for the history of this cabinet.
Do you have any idea of the current value of the cabinet?

Thanks in forward, for all info that you can find.

J. Collier & Son were a Brixton based chain of music shops with five shops across South London in 1927. Like many such retailers, in addition to selling gramophones from the major manufacturers, who insisted on fixed retail prices, Colliers offered some cheaper models under their own brand name. These were either bought in from wholesalers and badged by Collier, or maybe Collier had a workshop where they assembled them, having cabinets made by a local furniture factory. The motor in this one is by the Swiss maker Paillard; 'Apollo' was the brand name of Craies & Stavridi, the London agents for Paillard products. This gramophone probably dates from about 1928-1932.
The CLPGS does not provide valuations, but if you were to study auction results in the UK, you would find that cabinet gramophones have a limited market (apart from certain HMV models), and often sell at between £20 and £50.
