I have recently acquired a wind up gramophone from a friend and I am enjoying playing it. I would like to know what date it was made but cannot find any information - I don't even know the make as its just got Harmony, Clarity Beauty on the inside front lid with some fancy initials and then London W1 and on the sound box british made. Any ideas who made it and how old it is. I have searched the web for HCB gramophone but no luck.

Heres hoping you can help.

Harmony, Clarity, Beauty is clearly a slogan rather than a brand name, but the London W.1 address suggests a retailer rather than a manufacturer, and this is likely to be one of the many 'own brand' gramophones sold by shops at lower prices than those fixed by the leading manufacturers. Some shops assembled these in their own workshops, others bought them in complete from wholesale firms. The 'fancy initials' might give me a clue if you care to email a jpg of them to [email protected]
